This course was my favorite of the three and included lectures/assignments that discussed recognizing, maintaining, and implementing protocols necessary to maintain shelter animals physical health.

The final project required for this course was quite fun, as it consisted of creating my very own SOP for the shelter of my choice. Since I am a volunteer, I chose to develop an SOP for the Humane Society of Greater Miami.

An SOP is a document that outlines the recognition, treatment protocol, and aftercare for a specific problem present in the shelter. I determined my SOP topic to be recognizing and treating Feline Calicivirus. My SOP outlined the signs & symptoms present with Calicivirus, how to properly treat it, and how to prevent disease outbreak in the shelter:
